German giants Bayern Munich have won the Bundesliga title with four games to spare, thanks to some help from traditional rival Borussia Moenchengladbach.
Second-place Wolfsburg were defeated 1-0 by Moenchengladbach removing the mathematical possibility of Bayern being caught.
Bayern now have 76 points from 30 games and an unassailable 15-point lead over Wolfsburg, one of only two sides to have beaten the Bavarians this season. Borussia Moenchengladbach is the other.
Bayern left it late in their fixture but a Bastian Schweinsteiger scrike was enough tobeat Hertha Berlin 1-0 at the Allianz Arena on Saturday. This win secured the club’s third straight Bundesliga title. Bayern now has a record 25 German championships wins. What’s more, the treble is still on for Pep Guardiola’s side in his second season at the club. They play a German Cup semifinal at home to Borussia Dortmund this week, before taking on Guardiola’s old club Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals.
The previous Bayern manager Jupp Heynckes won the German treble in 2013.
